JGR Suzuki / Anaheim 1 SX

Jan 07 2019

The 2019 Monster Energy SX seaon opened up Saturday night in Anaheim Stadium. The conditions were tough due to the weather but the racing was far from uneventful.

The JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing team of Jimmy Decotis and Enzo Lopes were ready for a great night of racing. Jimmy D started of the day great as he ended up finishing 3rd overall in timed practice and would have a great gate pick for his heat race. After jumping out of the gate first, Jimmy experienced the slick conditions and tucked his front end in the first corner. He would remount and work his way back up to 9th to solidify himself in the main event later in the night. Decotis got himself a mid pack start in the main and rode very smart in the touogh conditions to end up 7th overall on the night. Jimmy stated, "The first round of the year with the JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Raacing team was a blast. The conditions were tough due to the rain but overall I'll take seventh given the circumstances."

Supercross Rookie Enzo Lopes was very excited to get his first SX under his belt. He came out in practice and rode very well and ended up finishing 10th fastest in combined qualifying. We would come out swinging in his heat race and would finish 3rd to secure a great gate pick in the main event. Unfortunately, he would go down in a first turn pile up and would have to work his way back up. When the checkered flag flew, Lopes would end up 15th on the night. "Practice and the heat race were awesome. I don't know what happened in the main event. I stalled and crashed at one point. I had the speed, but the track was sloppy, so I coulddnt attack. The main event wasnt what I wanted, but theres another race," stated Enzo Lopes.

Overall the opening round of Supercross was one for the books. The Answer Racing riders rode well and the remainder of the series is looking positive as they head to Glendale for the second round this weekend.

James Decotis - 7th
