Sutherlin Earns 4th at Opening Round of WORCS
Primm, NV – Hatch Racing/Answer/Pro Circuit/KTM rider Gary Sutherlin earned 4th overall for the second weekend in a row, this time at the opening round of the WORCS Series held at Buffalo Bills Casino at the California and Nevada border.
Sutherlin showed up to the opening round still recovering from the flu that he had earlier in the week. “Surprisingly, I felt pretty good during practice on Friday despite having a pretty uneventful week as I wasn’t able to train due to my sickness,” stated Sutherlin.
He continued his positive attitude into the weekend and was all smiles headed to the line for Sunday’s race. When the flag waived, Sutherlin came around the first turn mid-pack. He maintained that position through the end of lap one before moving up a position the following lap.
“The first half of the race was challenging as I was struggling with arm pump and my stomach was churning from being sick,” remarked Sutherlin. “After my pit at the halfway mark, I was able to get some fluids in me, my arm pump went away, and my stomach felt much better. I was finally able to charge.”
Sutherlin’s laps the second half of the race were his best of the day. He made some significant passes moving to 6th place with 3 laps to go and 5th place with 2 laps remaining. On the final lap, he was able to move into 4th place to secure a top five finish for the first round.
“I always want to be on the top step of the podium,” said Sutherlin. “But I am grateful that I was not further off considering how I felt. A top five is not the worst way to start the season, so I’ll take it and move forward from here.”
