125 Dream Race

May 31 2018

This past weekend marked the inaugural running of the 125 Dream Race Series at Hangtown MX. It was a packed field of past champions and also new up and coming riders who wanted to test their speed while all aboard 125cc motorcycles. The series will consist of six qualifying events and the grand finale will be held at Ironman MX in Crawfordsville Indiana in late August.
The riders received a quick practice on Friday afternoon to tune in their bikes and get a feel for the track. The standouts in that practice were Answer Racings own Ryan Villopoto, Aiden Tijero and Mike Sleeter along with some past SX/MX riders Wil Hahn and Jimmy Albertson. The stage was set for an epic battle come Saturday morning.
It was a beautiful morning for the opening round of the AMA outdoor national championship as the temperature was cool and the track was freshly prepped for the day’s races. After the morning session of 250 and 450 practices it was time for the 125’s to hit the track. All the riders received a quick 10 minute practice and then took a quick break to top off their fuel, grab and drink and then it was back down to the starting line for the final four lap race.

Wil Hahn jumped out to the early lead but was quickly picked off by Answer Racing’s Aiden Tijero and he was off to set the pace for the rest of the moto. Ryan Villopoto got a decent start after drawing the 21st gate pick but quickly picked off the riders in front of him to get into second.  He would put his head down and try to track down Tijero but was to no avail. Aiden was about a second or so faster than the rest of the field and would take home the win by about six seconds followed by Ryan Villopoto and Wil Hahn.

Mike Sleeter dusted off his KTM 125 for the event after his last lap crash last year less then 100 yards from the finish. Sleeter didn’t get the start he was looking for in the race and would fight tooth and nail to the finish to eventually end up 7th position.

Overall this was a great event and cant wait to see the remaining qualifying rounds and the grand finale later this year. Check out the photo gallery below.
